About Wicca

This is a brief explanation, in my own words. Wicca is a nature based religion that follow the Wiccan Rede, which is...
8 words the Wiccan Rede fulfill, An' it harm none, and do what ye will
There are other minor variations of the Rede, but this is the most basic one. Basically, you are to harm none, including yourself.
There are no "rules" per say. You will find so many different variations and paths within the Wiccan religion. Theres a old saying, If you ask 10 Wiccans what their path is, you'll get at least 15 different answers. The wonderful part is you can follow what feels right to you, and mix and and every different religion in with your own.
Wiccan also have different holidays then others. They are called Sabbats and there are 8 of them throughout the year.
They also follow the phases of the moon closely. There are different days and phases of the moon in which rituals and spells should be done on.
The threefold law is another thing Wiccans follow. This basically means that anything you do, be it good or bad will come back on you magnifies three times. So if you do something bad to someone, expect to have something 3 times more horrible to come back onto you sometime in the future. This is the same if you do a good deed.
Its important to mention that Wiccans are Pagans, but not all Pagans are Wiccan. Pagan is a umbrella term such as the word Christian. A Christian can be a Protestant, and Baptist, a Jehovah's Witness ect. Just as a Pagan can follow many different paths, the Wiccan path, celtic, Faery, just to name a couple.
Wiccans honor both the Gods and Goddess. They understand the feminine and masculine nature in everything. They can honor many different Gods and Goddesses. Most believe in a afterlife, some in reincarnation.
Most Wiccans believe in Spirit. They may commune with spirits and ghosts as well as their own Spirit guides and guardian angels, and totem animals.
There are rituals and spells that can be done. This often conjures pictures of a crooked nosed hag in a pointy black hat cackling over her cauldron and using pieces of animals for her potion. Being that Wiccans would never harm a animal and defiantly not for a spell, and that most Wiccans and Witches look like everyone else, this is just not true.
Wiccan do not worship the Devil. The pentacle is often misinterpreted as a sign of the devil. The pentacle actually stands for the elements. Earth, air, fire water and spirit. It is a sign that represents the closeness to Mother Nature.
Being a Wiccan is a way of life. There are many people who claim to be a Witch, or a Wiccan. They think it sounds cool or something. To be one, you must believe, and live this way of life. Be a lover of nature, and not have self serving purposes.
This is not a comprehensive picture of what makes Wiccans who they are, as a matter of fact, it barely scratches the surface, but it should give you a idea of what they are about.
This is just my views and ideas on what it is to be a Wiccan, and how I can loosely explain it.
